Here is the Valet of Swords card from the Visconti-Sforza deck. "Young Ostrick" is the Valet of Swords at the fencing match, and a little earlier in the play, before he got the Ostrick name, a big deal was made of his hat. This Valet of Swords card shows a fellow who appears quite young, and whose hat appears to consist entirely of plumes. As always, the tarot cards cannot be taken as exact illustrations for Hamlet, but Ostrick would look something like this, not dressed in armor, though. |
