The card at the right is the Visconti-Sforza Star card. In Scene 7 (conventional Act 2 scene 2) after the Ambassadors return from Norway, and Polonius is trying to persuade Claudius to get involved to make Hamlet marry Ophelia, Polonius says he told Ophelia: "Lord Hamlet is a prince out of thy star." This card shows a sad maiden reaching for her Star, but she doesn't quite have it within her grasp. |
